When the World Closed

When the World closed is a documentary I produced as part of the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Summer Student Research Program. It documents the historic World Theatre of downtown Kearney, Nebraska as it struggled to survive the initial stages of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. When the World Closed was accepted into the 2021 Omaha Film Festival, where it won runner-up in the Nebraska Shorts category, as well as the 2021 Fentress Student Film Festival and 2022 Fentress Film Festival – in which it won me two “Best First-Time Filmmaker” awards.

Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce

In May of 2021 I began work for the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce as a video intern. Through the organization I created some of my most polished and refined videos. I had opportunities to work on animation as well as photography, videography, and design.

The “welcome video” I made about myself! Partial credit goes to Heather Ullman for operating the camera while I was in the chair!
Recap video for the 2021 Business Leadership Partners Luncheon, a gathering at which the Chamber’s greatest supporters meet. Produced primarily in After Effects.
Recap video for the 103rd annual Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic, their biggest golf fundraiser at the time.
Intro/hype video for the 103rd annual KACC Annual Meeting, the Chamber’s biggest event of the year.
Recap video for Chamber events through the month of July, 2021.

The Antelope

I served as the Director of Video for The Antelope (UNK’s student newspaper) from September 2020 to May 2022. During my tenure I essentially built a video program from the ground up; the only video content being produced for the paper was through a semi-affiliated course, JMC-343: Video at the Antelope. I introduced a video counterpart for the paper’s long-running Lopers Speak segment and produced numerous short news pieces on campus events.

UNK Marketing and Communications

From September 2018 to May 2020 I was a student video worker for the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Marketing and Communications Department. I helped to produce video content for internal and external use; in addition to camerawork and video editing I was trained in animation (primarily After Effects).

Freelance Projects and Undergraduate Coursework

I have produced a limited number of videos as a freelance videographer, and have completed other projects for various undergraduate courses.

Untitled Farm Film 2020

Although technically produced for a college class (JMC-427: Advanced Video), I liked this short film enough to give it its own segment. “Untitled Farm Film 2020” is a brief glimpse into the world from which I come – a small family-owned farm in rural Nebraska.
